After all, it’s a very good place to start!
Hello! My name is Emily, and this is my first foray into the world of teacher blogging! I’m currently in my 12th year of teaching and working with students. I started as a preschool teacher in a Head Start program in Buffalo, New York and these days am working in a regional special education program in Hampton Roads, Virginia! I’m in my ninth year with my program, and every day is an adventure! At this point in my career I’ve taught students at the preschool, elementary, secondary, and transition age groups- everyone from age 3 to age 22.
Currently I’m a specialist and support eleven classrooms for secondary students with autism and other significant disabilities so my job has expanded to coaching and mentoring teachers and staff in addition to supporting instruction for students, IEP development, implementation of state assessment, communication support- you name it, I do it!
In addition to all that, I’m also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and so the science of applied behavior analysis is near and dear to my heart. I love a good journey into research and especially love translating it into practice in classrooms every day.
I’m looking forward to using this space to talk all things special ed- strategies, resources, research, ideas, support and more! Additionally, I’ll use this space to talk about my other new project- my Teachers Pay Teachers store! I’m a new arrival on the teacher-author scene and I’m looking forward to that process as well.
Thanks for coming on this journey with me!
